For many years different cultures have given flowers symbolic meanings to communicate emotion.

In the West it was the stiff upper-lipped Victorians who relied on flowers to show their emotions, particularly in matters of the heart. They created their own language, based on an ancient Turkish tradition, using flowers to talk to loved ones.
